Search engines such as Google, Bing and Yahoo have recently begun rolling out new features. Google touts “Search, Plus Your World” and the “Knowledge Graph” as revolutionary updates that will change the way that users search while making results more personal. Microsoft launched “Sidebar,” which appears in all Bing search engine result pages (SERPs) and allows users to see if Facebook friends can help answer search questions. India Wants Google, Facebook and Others to Censor User ContentAccording to The New York Times, the Indian government has requested that several major Internet companies launch a comprehensive pre-screening process to eliminate disparaging user generated content. Executives from the Indian offices of Google, Yahoo, Microsoft and Facebook are meeting with Kapil Sibal, the Minister for Telecommunications and Human Resources Development, to discuss the government’s concerns. The failing search giant is requesting that customers switch to Bing Webmaster Tools so that users can “ensure that their websites continue to get high quality organic search traffic.” While Bing’s tool set does have many of the features that were available in Yahoo! MC Hammer Prepares To Launch Search EngineMC Hammer hasn’t been a force to reckon with in the world of hip hop for nearly two decades, but the entrepreneur now claims to be creating a search engine that will outperform both Google and Bing. According to a CNN article, MC Hammer (whose real name is Stanley Burrell), announced the project last week at the Web 2.0 summit.
